St-Laurent Library
OUR CURRENT EXHIBITION
NOTRE EXPOSITION ACTUELLE
Historical Ottawa by Jennifer Robitaille
October 11 to December 13, 2024
Arteast Ottawa members are encouraged to hang their artwork in any of our east end library locations. It’s an opportunity to show your work and share your talent as well as gaining exhibition experience in a community venue. There is no fee to exhibit at our libraries. Library staff and visitors often mention how much they enjoy the art and the chance to support local artists.
The St-Laurent Library offers Arteast members the opportunity to participate in a solo (one artist only) exhibition of two-dimensional works.
Location:
The St-Laurent Library is located in the east end of Ottawa at 515 Côté Street. For their hours of operation please check the Ottawa Public Library website here.
Exhibition Space:
The Arteast Ottawa exhibition wall at the St-Laurent venue is located at the back of the library where the art is visible upon entering and throughout the entire library. It is approximately twenty feet (20′) wide and ten feet (10′) high. This is an ideal location to feature large artwork, although there are no restrictions for the size of your artwork. Double hanging is also allowed. To maximize the space, we suggest five to eight large pieces, or eight to ten medium pieces. We strongly suggest that you visit the library in person to determine how many pieces of your artwork will best suit the space.
Each solo exhibition runs for approximately two months with changeover occurring on the fourth Friday of every second month between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. See the Exhibition Schedule below for exact dates.
HANGING ARTWORK:
All artworks must adhere to Arteast Ottawa’s Hanging Guidelines. Please refer to our Hanging Guidelines here.
Artists are responsible for hanging their own artwork. The use of step ladders (3 steps) is permitted. The coordinator will be there to assist you with hanging your work on the changeover day. You may wish to bring someone to assist you with the hanging. The Arteast Blackburn Hamlet Library coordinator reserves the right to reject pieces because of technical or space reasons. A reminder that the library is a family oriented environment. The subject matter of all exhibited art should reflect this.
Changeovers for each exhibition will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Take down of the previous exhibition will take place at 10:30 a.m.
Hanging of new artwork will begin at 10:30 a.m. through to 12:00 pm.
If Friday morning isn’t possible for you, we can arrange to hang your show on one of the evenings when the library is open until 8:00pm. We will need to give the library advance notice and take precautions that the art and equipment do not interfere with or harm the customers.
See the 2022 Schedule below for changeover dates.
Wall Cards
Wall cards must accompany each artwork in the exhibition. Please complete and print the wall card template found here and bring it with you on the installation day. We will provide the adhesive tack.
To use the wall card template:
- Click on this link to download and save the PDF fillable form to your device or computer.
- Open the file using the most current version of Acrobat Reader.
- You can navigate your way through the fields by tabbing or use your mouse to click in the fields.
- Fields are formatted to ensure we represent Arteast and our member’s work in a professional manner at all exhibitions.
- Once you have entered your information save your template.
- Print your labels on white paper, each label 3″ x 4″ in size. Bring them with you to your exhibition. (Note: the blue fillable form field indicator will not show when you print your labels)
The wall card template is compatible with Avery 5392 labels which can be purchased from office supply retailers. If you need assistance with your wall card template contact the web administrators.
Artist’s Statement/Biography
Each artist who exhibits at the St-Laurent Library is required to bring with them an Artist’s Statement or Biography. Your Artist’s Statement must reflect both English and French. Note: Please do not include personal contact information other than a website address. To ensure a consistent presentation of our exhibition Artist’s Statements, we have provided you with a PDF template to be used at your exhibition. Follow the steps below to use the template. If you require any assistance contact the website administrators here.
Click here to download the Artist’s Statement/Biography Template (PDF)
- Download the PDF from the website and save the file to your computer or device
- Type your name in the Artist’s Name field
- Type your Artist’s Statement or Biography in the large text field (NOTE: The template font and content space has been formatted and will automatically adjust based on the amount of content typed. If content disappears it means you have too much content for the space and will have to reduce it accordingly.)
- Save your PDF file once again to your computer or device
Print two copies of your Artist’s Statement/Biography and bring both copies with you the day you hang your artwork (one for display, one for the binder at the front desk).
- Please bring a price list of all the paintings you are displaying (for the binder at the front desk).
HOW TO REGISTER FOR AN EXHIBITion SPACE:
Members will be notified of exhibition opportunities in a Call for Artists communicated through the Digest. Each exhibition will have its own Call for Artists approximately four weeks prior to the changeover dates. Artists can respond to this call by registering online (see the Schedule below for each exhibition’s registration button). The exhibition will normally change every two months.
Note: When you register, you must have all the details of your artwork (dimensions, price, title, medium) ready and be prepared to upload two images in order to submit your registration form. Please ensure that your images meet Arteast Ottawa’s Image Guidelines.
You will receive a confirmation of registration email upon successful submission of your registration form. Please check your spam or promotions folder if you do not see the confirmation email in your inbox. It is important to read your confirmation email carefully because it will outline additional details for your exhibition.
ACCEPTANCE OF EXHIBITion RULES:
All artwork must comply with Arteast Ottawa’s Exhibition Rules and Hanging Guidelines otherwise it will not be exhibited.
Members must be committed to leaving their artwork on exhibition for the duration of the exhibition period unless special arrangements have been made with the Coordinators.
