Rendezvous Arteast is an exhibition space on the Upper Level of the Shenkman Arts Centre, at B2, the Arts Network Ottawa front office and meeting room. All artwork shown at Rendezvous Arteast is unjuried and all Arteast Ottawa members have an opportunity to show their artwork. There may be extra opportunities to show at this venue, such as volunteer’s shows.  This is an enclosed area behind glass doors.

STAFFING:

This is a venue that is physically staffed by the exhibiting artists.  When it is not staffed, the doors are locked.

Artists that register to show at Rendezvous Arteast are required to staff the space when it is open. Times will be shared equally between the exhibiting artists in a particular show.

Initial operating hours for Rendezvous Arteast have been selected in order to account for most of the events at the Shenkman Arts Center.   As such, your individual time commitments for staffing should be quite manageable.  Please note, that as we gain more insights in running this exhibition space, we may adjust hours accordingly for future shows.

You will be asked on the registration form if you would like an initial orientation to Rendezvous Arteast.  One of the venue volunteers will meet with artists regarding how things are done, and if required, how to complete a sale using the Square Terminal.   

A reference binder containing all the important information will be on the venue desk to assist during staffing.  For your convenience, you will also be provided with a downloadable PDF copy of this reference binder in your Confirmation of Registration email.

How to Book Shifts:

Once artists have registered their artwork and paid their hanging fee, they can view the shift schedule here in order to make their requests to the calendar coordinator.  Spots are filled on a first come first served basis. 

Please be aware that the calendar coordinator is a volunteer and that the schedule will not be updated live.   As we move forward with the operation of Rendezvous Arteast, we may improve on this process.   We ask for your patience as we continue to work on this.

Exhibition Fee:

An exhibition fee of $20 will apply at time of registration.

Exhibition Space:

This includes walls in reception, all walls in the Lise Roy Meeting Room as well as walls along two hallways.  Heights vary according to the walls. There is also the ability to show a few 3D pieces in the space.

Two Dimensional (2D) Artwork:

Two dimensional artwork registrations will be limited to a maximum of ten (10) artists per exhibition.

Each artist will be allotted a maximum of approximately 100 linear inches (8 feet) of display space.  This equates to either two large pieces (~30 to 48” wide) OR four  medium pieces (~16” to 24” wide) OR seven smaller pieces (up to 14” wide).  Combinations of sizes adding up to <100 linear inches can also be registered. There will be no double hanging.

Please note that there is a weight restriction of 12 lbs per linear foot.  This is in consideration of the hanging system.

Three Dimensional (3D) Artwork:

**Prior to completing your 3D online submission form, please contact the Rendezvous Arteast Coordinator in order to ensure your pieces fit and can be displayed safely.  Once confirmed you can confidently fill in the registration form.

Rendezvous Arteast can exhibit small to medium sized 3D pieces.   There is a glass vitrine that has several shelves to display 4 pieces of roughly 12” high and 12″ wide.   There is also a possibility of showing on one plinth with a display surface of 12” square.

Note again that pieces should be brought to the attention of the coordinator to see what might be possible.  Rendezvous Arteast will be learning how best to manage your three dimensional artwork as we move forward.  Thank you for your understanding.

Hanging and Displays:

All artwork must adhere to Arteast Ottawa’s hanging guidelines (with wires and D-rings).  Please refer to our hanging guidelines here.

Rendezvous Arteast’s volunteer group will be hanging the artworks according to size versus wall dimensions so that the overall exhibition is cohesive.  Your artwork will likely not be hung together, but in the best locations determined by the Rendezvous crew.

It is expected that three dimensional artists participate in the placement of their pieces.

Wall Cards:

Labels will be provided by the Rendezvous crew.  Artists are not required to prepare any labels.

Business Cards:

Current exhibiting artists may display business cards during their show.  A multi-holder display rack for business cards will be available. 

How to Register:

Members will be notified of exhibition opportunities in a Call for Artists communicated through the Digest.  Each exhibition will have its own Call for Artists approximately five weeks prior to the installation/changeover dates.

Artists can respond to this call by registering online (see the Schedule below for each exhibition’s registration button).  The exhibition will normally change every few months.

You will receive a confirmation of registration email upon successful submission of your registration form.  Please check your spam or promotions folder if you do not see the confirmation email in your inbox.  It is important to read your confirmation email carefully because it will outline additional details for your exhibition.

Please register early and if there are any questions, contact the coordinator.

Drop Off & Pick-Up of Artwork:

Members exhibiting their artwork will be asked to drop off and collect their artwork at Rendezvous Arteast on the dates and times specified.  Please do not arrive outside these times as the space will be locked. 

Changeover times will be coordinated to match those for Promenade.   Please refer to your Confirmation of Registration email for the times and dates of artwork drop off and pick-up.

*Acceptance of Rules*:

Exhibiting artists MUST staff the space when it is open.  Artists who fail to do this will lose their right to further exhibitions at Rendezvous Arteast.
