Our speaker series takes place on the fourth Tuesday of every month with the exception of December, July and August. Meetings commence at 7:00 p.m. and take place at 255 Centrum Boulevard, Room 340 (3rd Floor), Orleans, Ont. (beside the Shenkman Arts Centre).

Speaker: Gillian King

Gillian King is a Visual Artist, Art Therapist, and Registered Psychotherapist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gillian holds an MFA from the University of Ottawa, a BFA from the University of Manitoba, and a Masters in Art Therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. She is an award winning artist having received the 2019 Espronceda Centre for the Arts and Culture Artistic Prize, 2017 RBC Emerging Artist Award, and the 2017 Nancy Petry Award. Her work has been internationally exhibited, featured in publications and media including CBC, Border Crossing magazine, and Canadian Art magazine. Gillian explores themes of codependence, fragility, mortality, and resilience through abstract painting, incorporating techniques from fiber art, printmaking, painting, and craft processes.

Gillian looks forward to sharing her artistic process with Arteast including a live (virtual) eco-printing.

Speaker: Tim Packer
Topic: The Business of Being an Artist

Tim’s presentation will deal with the realities of trying to actually make a living from one’s art and will highlight a lot of misconceptions about what is actually required to become a successful artist.

Tim parlera du volet commercial d’être artiste. Il traitera des réalités auxquelles on fait face pour vivre de son art et mettra en lumière de nombreuses idées fausses sur ce qui est réellement nécessaire pour devenir un artiste prospère.
