With Allison Fagan
by Mary Ann Varley
It might be spring but snow, wind and ice were making this Saturday a driving challenge. Despite the weather, on Saturday, March 22, three members of Arteast Ottawa went to Allison Fagan’s studio to do the level one pencil crayon workshop organized by the Grow With Art team.
Each artist had a chance to learn the basic blending techniques, how to use the erasers and the types of pressure to apply to create surface detail. Allison had some good tips for organizing the work surface and the types of paper, tape, erasers. She used examples of her stunning works.
After lunch, each of us worked on reproducing a simple photograph of a cherry. Making the colour accurate was achieved by layering several colours. Allison guided us through the selection of colours to make the layers and build the highlights. Amazing results were achieved by all.
Allison is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, having been juried into several international exhibitions in the United States. She works exclusively in coloured pencil and coloured pencil in mixed media. Her sensitive and meticulous renderings create images of still life, florals and everyday objects. Check out her website www.allisonfagan.com for her wonderful results.
