Grow With Art Oct 2013

An Evening of Sharing

by Mary Anne Varley

Due to a last minute illness, Robert Murrell was unable to present on October 22. With such short notice the Grow with Art team decided the best substitute was an evening of sharing. Thirty two members and a few guests were in attendance. The format of the evening invited each artist to present their current work. It was a really fun event and I found it uplifting and encouraging with all the comments. It would be impossible to write about each participant due to limited space. Pari Zati presented her paintings which showed her versatility in different media. Helen had some interesting advise to help her complete her seascape. Gregory Abraszko showed how the works with his photography to take an image through computer programs to the final product- a daytime picture was converted to moonlight. Highlights included our most senior member Edward Wong at 95 who presented his watercolour paintings. He explained his choice of materials and subject matter. Gaby Liu helped with some translation. Gaby presented a unique way of making pictures with cotton paper that she brought from Taiwan. Joanne Tremblay talked about her oil painting and her personal journey with colitis. I really commend all the artists for their contribution to a very successful program. The door prizes were presented. We are all glad to hear that Bob is recovering and back to painting. Maybe we can reschedule another demonstration in the next programme.
