Autumn arrived in all its splendour, heralding the 2013 AJAE, (Arteast Juried Art Exhibition). Located at the St. Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street, Ottawa, Ontario, this exhibition is held from Sunday, September 29th 2013, through Thursday, November 21st 2013.

Enter the Complex, turn to the left, and along the wall is an exhibition that presents the artistic works of visual artists from across our region. The myriad of artists, mediums they create with, and their exhibited works are a testament to the cornucopia of artistic talent and endeavours of Arteast members. All of the pieces exhibited were a rewarding experience for the artists and the visitors who attended this event.

In speaking with Patrick Imai, awarded 1st in the Three-dimensional Artwork category for, "Best Friends Forever", Patrick stated his particular piece was inspired by his children. "Best Friends Forever", is one of a trio of sculptures that includes, "Fun and Games", and "Kids Fighting".

Moving along to the Opaque Acrylic category, I had the opportunity to speak with Josie De Meo who was awarded 3rd prize for "Morning Dew". "This piece is part of a project on bullying. Spring comes, and it's about bulbs becoming flowers. In life we can make change and come out stronger. My painting is part of an elementary school visual arts program, it's all about turning an negative into a positive", says Josie of her painting.

Lissa Rachelle Robillard was awarded 1st in the Works on Paper and Hand-rendered Prints category, for "The Joust". This piece was inspired and created after Lissa attended a Medieval Fair in Osgoode, Ontario, Canada.

Inspiration, resulting in our members creating their works of art, comes from an infinite number of sources and ideas the artist associates and/or resonates with, making each piece of art unique and fascinating. Arteast is very active in providing social and networking opportunities during monthly meetings, exhibiting artwork at local libraries/Art Galleries, Juried Awards Exhibitions...., just to name a few of the opportunities. The quality and quantity of Arteast programs would not be possible without the commitment, efforts and skills, of volunteers.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all of the volunteers who worked so hard to ensure that the 2013 AJAE was a resounding success. Also, thank you to all of the artists who participated, and we look forward to the 2014 AJAE.
